KD&O STEEL PRODUCTS - STEEL TYPES

A box frame is a structure composed of two columns and two beams, creating a rectangular or square shape. This type of framework is essential for supporting buildings when walls are removed. A box frame is necessary if there is no party wall agreement in place, ensuring stability and safety in the construction process.

A goal post frame is used for rear extensions when the foundations are appropriate or where pads for the columns can be excavated and cast in concrete. The two columns effectively transfer the load down to the foundation while providing greater lateral stability. This frame is suitable for projects without a party wall agreement, ensuring structural integrity.

A cranked roof frame is crucial for loft conversions, as it provides essential support for the roof structure. The additional cross beam helps reinforce the roof joists, ensuring stability and strength in the converted space.

Portal frame is a low-rise structure supported by columns and characterised by a beam or rafter. However, the joints between the beam and columns are 'rigid' so that the bending moment in the beam is transferred to the columns.
