In projects such as loft conversions or roofs it is preferable to replace a deep beam with two smaller beams. To ensure stability to buckling, these beams are bolted together and this is where a spacer beam is used.

A cranked beam is an angled beam featuring two kinks that create a 90-degree angle. Its function is to support roof structures, leveraging its shape for added stability. Full penetration welds are used for these connections to ensure they can effectively carry the load.

A stiffener is a secondary section attached to the web or flanges of a beam, designed to prevent deformations and enhance structural integrity. By reinforcing these areas, stiffeners help maintain the beam's strength and performance under load.

This structure is generally attached to the flitch beam. The main reason why these plates are needed is to connect to timber joists at a point where shear and bending occurs.

Splices are employed when a beam is too heavy or long to install or transport safely. The flange plates must be at least the same thickness as the beam's flange, and this requirement also applies to the web plates. This ensures that the spliced connections maintain the structural integrity and strength of the beam.

The bottom plate is attached to a beam and serves to support timber joists or brickwork. This connection is welded to one side of the beam, ensuring effective support for the brickwork and enhancing the overall stability of the structure.
